Questions & Answers
Plumsted Township schools are not adequately funded. How can this issue be addressed?
First, it’s important to distinguish the municipal budget from the school district budget. While the Plumsted Township Committee is responsible for the municipal budget, the Plumsted Township Board of Education is responsible for the school district budget.
In the 2024–2025 tax year, the Plumsted Township district school tax accounted for 61.7% of total Plumsted Township property taxes. Local municipal and open space taxes accounted for 10.9% of the total. The remaining 27.4% is made up of Ocean County taxes, and the Plumsted Township Fire District (which includes EMS). While the Board of Education governs the school district, most of the district budget is dictated by state mandates. Due to continued reductions from previous levels of state aid, the Board of Education has announced a 19.23% increase in the 2025–2026 school district tax rate.
We wholeheartedly support candidates in Trenton who will reform the current school funding formula while committing to supporting an appropriately funded, quality education for our students. We value and support the repeated efforts being made in Trenton by Assemblyman Alex Sauickie on behalf of the Plumsted Township School District and all of the schools in Legislative District 12.
